Free Spirit cover

Followers of Free Spirit on Platypuscomix.net may have noticed issue six went up with no cover last May. That's because this was supposed to be the cover, and I was dreading having to draw it. It's an action scene that involves two cars in slightly different three-quarters viewpoints. I've always had trouble drawing cars. They are a very hard shape to render three-dimensionally and it'd take me a long time to sketch everything out.

But I NEEDED to do this cover at some point, and with a little downtime before Christmas I finally found the chance to spend a day on it. This is a perfect encapsulation of what Free Spirit is about and what drew me to the concept. Winnie is a witch who has liberated the Harper children from any form of mundanity, rules or conformity. It's an open guess why they're doing this, but it was probably Winnie's idea. As you look at it, you're not only amused but you think "how could this behavior get any more reckless?" And then you realize GENE is driving.
